RAGGING EFFECT

Less is more with this decorative painting technique, which challenges you to create dramatic effects through textures that reproduce the effect of velvet, parchment or suede. Use and abuse textured cloths that will allow you to create unique and original effects.

Start by preparing the necessary material, setting apart some clean cloths that will allow you to create the desired effect. To prepare the mix, add 1 part VINYLSOFT of the desired colour to 3 parts CRAFT EFFECTS EXTENDER and mix well. Prepare all the mixture you will need for the area to be painted. This is because different mixtures can result in different shades, therefore the effect will not be uniform.

Transfer the mixture to a paint tray. Dip the anti-drip roller in the paint and drain the excess paint using the ribbed area ofthe paint tray. Apply from the corner of the ceiling to the base, working in sections about 1 m wide. Leave the edges of each section uneven – you don't want a clean, straight line from top to bottom. Test your painting technique and colour combinations on a small area before starting the project.

Take a clean cloth and roll it up loosely. Place the cloth roll against the wall with the still-damp mixture to remove some paint. Roll the cloth over small areas, and in different directions, for a more uneven effect. Turn the cloth over frequently to use the clean areas.

Repeat the previous steps on an adjacent section about 1 m wide. Whenever you change area, use a clean cloth and make sure to apply the same effect you applied in the previous section to the new section with the mixture still fresh, stopping about 3 cm from the area that you applied it to before.

Repeat the entire process until you cover the entire surface to be painted, and thus complete the project. Assess your work whenever you change section to ensure that the wall looks homogeneous. Leave to dry for 24 hrs.

For greater durability of the effect, redressing or evening out the sheen, we suggest the application of two coats of CRAFT EFFECTS TOP COAT, a varnish for walls, on top of the finished and dry effect.
