New photovoltaic production unit will provide a 31% autonomy for the facilities’ energy consumption.
CIN invests over 200 thousand euros in the name of Energy Sustainability
CIN, the Iberian leader Portuguese brand in the coatings market, invested more than 200 thousand euros in the installation of a PV production unit for self-consumption (UPAC).
This new unit, installed in the main building of the Maia Distribution Centre, will enable CIN to directly produce part of the energy consumed in its industrial activity, leading to a global autonomy of about 31% of the facilities’ total energy consumption, ensuring sustainability as a transversal mission of the brand.
Committed to the future of the environment and the wellbeing of its employees, clients, suppliers and the community, CIN seeks to improve its eco-efficiency by focusing on an active Environmental Management policy. In order to minimize its industrial activity’s environmental impact, this commitment is translated into a photovoltaic production unit, which will be responsible for reducing the emission of 94.9 tons of CO2 per year - equivalent to a reduction in 21 hectares of forestry and the removal of 53 cars from the road. The overall autonomy achieved for the plant's operations corresponds to enough energy to supply 87 households.
With more than a century of history since its foundation, CIN has always sought to be at the forefront of innovation and the most advanced technological solutions, a strategy that has been consolidated over the years by providing the market with eco-efficient products of guaranteed performance. In this context, CIN's Project and Engineering Director Fernando Pinheiro states: "the concern with sustainability is inherent to the culture of the company". Hence, adds the Director: CIN "wants to be aligned with a strategy that helps to provide the best products, while reducing its activity's environmental impact”. Also, according to CIN's Director of Projects and Engineering: "the investment in this new photovoltaic unit allows us to use eco-efficient energy without jeopardizing the usual production levels needed". In other words, he explains: "we are increasingly sure that this is the way forward and that a brand like the CIN adds value to its consumers, especially as it focuses on sustainable and responsible policies that reduce the ecological footprint".
Along with investment in innovation, CIN has supported several programmes and actions that contribute to the development of value and socio-economic prosperity in the community - projects in schools, hospitals, IPSS and other institutions not only by offering paints or helping to requalify and decorate derelict buildings, but also by creating more colourful environments and happier users, or through partnerships that aim at rehabilitating urban areas and enhancing the public space.
