ON City Resort opts for ‘cool roof’ solutions to improve thermal comfort in Huelva.

In southern Spain, where high temperatures are a regular feature of the summer, ensuring thermal comfort in tourist accommodation has become an increasingly important factor in providing a better experience for guests. In Huelva, a popular destination for families during the holiday months, the intense heat can affect visitors’ well-being, particularly that of children.

With this challenge in mind, ON City Resort - All Inclusive Prime | Playa de Doñana, located in Matalascañas, has opted for a solution using ‘cool roof’ technology to improve the thermal performance of the buildings that make up the resort.

Roofing solutions designed for hot climates

The project involved the application of Imperflex Roofings, a CIN solution developed for waterproofing and protecting roofs that also helps to reduce heat absorption by surfaces exposed to the sun.

The application is being carried out directly by the client on the resort’s various roofs. Work began in May 2025, was suspended during the peak of the summer high season, and resumed in the autumn.

By reducing heat transfer through the roof, the solution helps to maintain more comfortable indoor temperatures in the resort’s guest rooms and communal areas.

Greater comfort for guests, lower energy consumption

Although no quantitative measurements of the results are available, the expected impact includes the creation of more pleasant indoor environments and a reduction in the need for intensive use of air-conditioning systems.

In addition to increased thermal comfort – especially at night – this improvement also contributes to more efficient energy use, resulting in operational benefits for the development.
